2025 First Coast Poetry Showcase

On March 30th, record numbers gathered at the Southeast Regional Library for the First Coast Poetry Showcase. The winners of our annual student poetry contest read their work and received their awards. For the first time, middle schools were included in the competition alongside our high schoolers. Per norm, we were blown away by these talented young writers!

Members of several local writing groups shared poetry as well. Despite the hot temps in the room, I was hellbent on debuting my butterfly blazer. Oh-and I read a newer piece called "Wellness Check." It was a beautiful day all around.

In the wake of a politically unsettling week, it felt AMAZING to gather in creative community. To the writers and organizers and attendees that made this event so special, THANK YOU!

Yes-there was a heaviness in the air for many of us, but there was also laughter. I've always known I'm at my happiest when I am making things. Let's keep doing what it is we do when the clouds roll through--seeking out the spaces where the light peeks in.
